What is an opinion?
An opinion is what we think or feel about something.
Sometimes people share the same opinions on things, and sometimes people have different opinions.
Both of these are fine, as opinions are personal to us.

Watch - Explore why it is important to share opinions
Watch the Community Club friends learn about the importance of sharing opinions fairly while painting a rocket.
Harry: Woohoo! Our rocket is all done.
Ariana: Right, all that's left now is to paint it.
Mo: What colour should we paint it?
Harry: Blue is the best colour.
Becky: Red is so awesome!
Lucy: No! Green is the coolest.
Ariana: It's got to be purple.
Mo: Yellow is totally the way to go.
Beth: Hey, what's all this noise about?
Harry: Mum, tell them blue is the best colour.
Mo: Yellow, yellow, yellow is the best!
Ariana: No, purple is the best colour.
Becky: Red is the best.
Lucy: Green!
Beth: Whoa, you're all talking over each other. Lucy, what's the problem?
Lucy: We're trying to decide what colour we want to paint our rocket.
Beth: Hmm, instead of shouting over each other, you're going to take turns to say what colour you think the rocket should be and why, starting with Ariana.
Ariana: Well, we should paint the rocket purple because purple is the colour of royalty and magic.
Becky: Well, red is the colour of excitement, like a racing car.
Harry: And blue is the colour of the sky.
Lucy: Green is the colour of nature and peace.
Mo: And yellow is the colour of the sun.
Beth: Well done for listening to each other. Everyone has the right to be heard and share their opinion. This is part of being a responsible citizen.
Right, let's decide which colour to choose. A good method is by voting. Voting is a way people can decide things fairly when they don't agree with each other.
I'll say a colour and you have to raise your hand when you hear the colour that you want the rocket to be. But you can't vote for your own colour, okay?
All: Yes!
Beth: So, who would like the rocket to be painted purple? Yellow? Blue? Red? Green?
Great, everyone voted for each other’s colours evenly. How about we use all the colours? That would be a good solution.
Awesome work. Now, what do you want to call it?
All: You name it!

Sharing your opinion also helps to improve your listening skills.

Time to discuss
Talk to a friend or family member about something that interests you, like your favourite TV programme, sport or hobby!
Share some of your opinions on the topic and say why you have that opinion. Then ask the other person for their opinions.
