Battle of Moira

The Battle of Moira was first mentioned in the Annals of Ulster, a series of books and writings that recorded important dates in Irish history.

This legendary clash took place in 637 AD between Domnall the High King of Ireland and his step son Congal Cáech, King of Ulster. Congal first fought Domnall in 629 AD but, when he lost, he ran off to Scotland and plotted his revenge. He returned to Ireland with an army of men from across the Irish Sea, hoping to avenge his previous defeat – this rematch became known as the Battle of Moira.
