You will need
  • Table
  • Tape - to stick down the string
  • String - between 4-6 pieces
  • Scissors - to cut the string

How to make the bracelets

  • Choose the colours and number of strings you want to use in your bracelet. The bracelets work well with 4 to 6 pieces of string. (If you don't have string, fine wool thread can also work as well)

  • Cut the string into long pieces. Leaving at least three inches at the top tie a knot to keep them all together. (Get a grown up to help when using sharp items)

  • Using tape to stick the knotted end to the table. You could also tie the strings to a sturdy object like a chair.

  • Lay the strings out straight and place them into the order you want to start with.

  • Time to get knotting! To begin, take the first string in your right hand and the second string in your left hand and cross them over making the shape of a backwards four. Loop the first string under the second one and tie it tightly to the top.

  • Repeat knot. Always do two knots on every string  ✨

  • Once knotted twice, move onto the next string. Holding the string that was in the left hand now in the right, pick up a new string with the left hand and repeat the process until you have a line.

  • Repeat these steps until your bracelet has reached the length you want. (Usually to be able to fit around your wrist)

  • Once you have finished the lines on your bracelet, braid or plait for at least one inch and then tie a knot. TOP TIP: You'll need to bunch together one or more strings so you have three pieces to plait)

  • Finally unstick the top of the bracelet and braid about an inch on this end and finish with a knot.

How to tie an adjustable knot

  1. To get a perfect fit on your wrist the next step is to make an adjustable knot.

  2. Wrap the bracelet around your wrist and loop one end of the string around your finger, then thread the string through the loop to create a circle.

  3. With the other piece of string thread this through the loop and pull tight.

  4. You will now be able to adjust the size of the bracelet by gently pulling it open.

  5. Tie some knots at the end of each string so it doesn't slide too far off.
