If you are wondering what your child will be covering in year 2, Bitesize can help.
Schools all approach things a bit differently but there are some core areas of Maths and English that your child will most likely do this year.

Maths - Year 2
Place value
In year 2, your child will learn about the place value of two-digit numbers.
They will partition two-digit numbers into tens and ones.
Compare and order numbers to 100.
Write numbers to 100 in words and numerals.

Year 1 recap
Before your child starts year 2, it may be a good idea to recap some topics they covered last year.
Calculations
In year 2, your child will become more confident working with two-digit numbers. A great place to start is recapping addition and subtraction within 20.
Your child will work up to addition and subtraction with two digit numbers.
They will practise counting in twos, threes, fives, and tens.
They will learn how to write multiplication sentences.
They will learn how to divide objects by sharing and grouping.

English - Year 2
Reading
In year 2, your child will build up their fluency and confidence in word reading as well as be introduced to some comprehension skills.
Your child will practise reading for understanding and meaning.
They will read and talk about a variety of different types of text.
They will continue to be introduced to new vocabulary.

Recap Year 1
Before you start, recap some of the knowledge your child may have learnt in Year 1.
Writing
In year 2, your child will continue to practise their handwriting to write longer sentences, stories, personal accounts and poems.
They will use conjunctions to make their sentences longer.
Your child will write from their own personal experience.
They will use a variety of punctuation in their writing.
