What does health in the community mean?
Health in the community focuses on people living in a healthy and safe way.
Our health can be affected by lots of different things.
It is important that we look after our own health as well as the health of others in our community.

Join the Community Club friends on a picnic and learn about how we can all keep each other healthy and safe.
Harry: Oh… yummy!
Max: Uh Harry, did you wash your hands after going to the toilet?
Harry: Hmm, no…
Max: If you don't, tiny invisible things called germs can stay on your hands which could make you ill. Or you might pass germs on to other people in the community and make them ill too.
That's why we have signs in public to remind us to wash our hands and point us to where we can do it. This helps to keep everyone more healthy.
Mo: I saw a poster at school that said to be more healthy, you should eat five different fruits and vegetables a day.
Max: Yes, information like that encourages people to develop healthy habits.
Lucy: Oh hi, Mum!
Max: Ah, you're just in time for the picnic.
Zoe: Great, I'm always hungry after work.
Ariana: Why are you wearing that?
Zoe: Oh, this is what I wear for work. I'm a paramedic. I help people who've been injured or become unwell. If they need more care, I drive them to the hospital in an ambulance.
Max: I wonder what other sorts of people help to keep us safe and healthy in their jobs?
Ariana: Doctors and nurses do.
Becky: The fire and rescue service.
Mo: How about the police?
Lucy: Waste collectors do a great job too.
All: Yes!
Max: Ah yes. Great suggestions. All these jobs are really important for us to have a safe and healthy community. As citizens, we all have the right to live safely and healthily.
