The Community Club friends put on a play to help wildlife in their community.
Nejah: Okay, let's practise our play that we're going to show here at the theatre about saving bees.
Becky: Ugh, what's so special about bees?
Nejah: Bees are extremely important creatures. They help provide a lot of the food that we eat, but unfortunately bees are disappearing because there are fewer plants for them to feed from.
So we're putting on this play to make people aware of this problem and how to solve it.
Ariana: Please can I play a bumblebee?
Lucy and Mo: We want to play the plants!
Nejah: Okay yes, that sounds good to me. And then we just need someone to be the farmer. Harry, you could do that.
Harry: No, I don't like talking in front of lots of people.
Nejah: Don't worry, there are other ways you can get involved. How about making some signs to give people information on the play?
Harry: Yeah, I'd love to make some signs, please!
Nejah: Great. Putting on a play can't be the only way we can make a difference.
I wonder what else we could do to try and help the bees or let people know about the problem?
Lucy: People could make a protest.
Mo: You could volunteer to plant bee-friendly plants.
Harry: Or you could make posters and leaflets for people to read to make them more aware.
Ariana: How about starting a petition that asks for changes and getting others to sign it so they agree?
My dad started one, asking to turn the roundabout into a wildflower garden for the bees.
Nejah: Those all sound like excellent ways to help. Communities working together can really make a difference.
Every citizen has the right to speak out about things that are important to them, like helping wildlife.
Max: Hey Harry, are you performing in the play today?
Harry: No, I wanted to help in a different way.
Beth: Isn't that the sign you painted? It sends out a great message.
Harry: Yeah, I worked really hard on it!
